I’ve been intrigued by the business of painting since I was a child.

Through fifty odd years of teaching myself, being untaught at college by the disparate influences of Tom Phillips, Michael Kidner, Oldenburg even, at Corsham and Byam Shaw; I’ve laboured at painting.  Sometimes in the service of ideas, often attempting to impose an order on chaos.

On rare occasions an image results, which for a time, serves to fix a moment when I think this is what I want. All who engage in this will know the feeling, however transient. Most of the time we ask ourselves - is this it? Being unsatisfied with the answer, we plunge on.
